Mom’s Night Out in San Diego with Aall In Limo & Party Bus

With a fun holiday like Cinco de Mayo upon us, and Mother’s Day just around the corner, I couldn’t think of a better time to organize a little “Mom’s Night Out” on the town to give me and my mom friends a much needed break and some quality girl time. Cinco de Mayo also happens to be one of my favorite holidays because who doesn’t have fun with chips and salsa, margaritas, and maracas in the mix? Spoiler alert: no one.

To make this Mom’s Night Out extra special, we decided to rent a limo from Aall In Limo & Party Bus and head down to Old Town to celebrate our night of freedom, complete with mini sombreros!

Aall In Limo & Party Bus

Aall In Limo & Party Bus was started by Mike Reifeiss, after he went “Aall in” during  a poker tournament and won! He bought his first limo with his winnings and has continued to grow his business in San Diego and Temecula ever since. Aall In Limo & Party Bus offers town cars, stretch limos, Hummers and a Party Bus as part of its fleet. They specialize in Temecula winery tours, San Diego brewery tours, bachelor and bachelorette parties, birthday parties or a night out just because!

The thing that truly sets Aall in Limo & Party Bus apart from other limo transportation options in San Diego, is their service. I’ve personally experienced a few other local limo companies and nothing compared to the attention to detail, courtesy and overall service that Aall in Limo provided our group. I also thought the name was just so fitting after I wrote my “All in” Mother’s Day article! It was meant to be.

Mom’s Night Out in San Diego

With good intentions to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with some Mexican food and margaritas, the seven of us headed to Old Town, San Diego. Tragically there were huge lines out the door  of almost every Mexican restaurant, so we made a game-time decision to head to Little Italy’s Kettner Exchange instead (afterall, there were some hungry pregnant women in the limo who needed to eat A.S.A.P.! 😉 ) Our limo driver, Joe, was so accomodating with the change of plans and got us safely to our new destination.

Kettner Exchange provided the perfect atmosphere for a girls night out. Even with no reservation, the seven of us were able to claim a long community table in their lounge and instantly found ourselves with cocktails, mocktails and appetizers circulating.

Although we tried many delicious tapas, I highly recommend the Fried Chicken (I’ll seriously dream of this dish), Kale Salad, and Cauliflower Tempura.  For my main course I had to order the Double Double Burger, because…well, have  you seen this thing? Yes, please.

Our driver, Joe, politely texted me when we were getting close to our departure time (I LOVED the courtesy text – so helpful), so with that we paid the bill and headed back to north county.

Despite the change of dinner plans, the night ended up being a huge success and a much-deserved night out for these mamas!

Bodycare at Whole Foods Markets in San Diego + 25% Off

I recently attended a media event at Whole Foods Market, highlighting their amazing bodycare products. I was truly blown away at the thought they put into choosing the purest, best products to offer their shoppers and the way they are helping streamline better ingredients when it comes to bodycare. You really can’t go wrong when buying any bodycare at Whole Foods Markets because of their strict guidelines and quality standards. whole foods market bodycare

Whole Body Quality Standards:

I was very impressed with the standards that Whole Foods Market holds true for all of the bodycare products you see on their shelves. Whole Foods Market Quality Standards include the following:

  • We  carefully  evaluate  each  and  every  product  we  sell.
  • We  are  passionate  about  aromatic,  luxurious,  effective  personal  care   products  and  the  pleasure  of  sharing  them  with  others.
  • We  encourage  our  vendor  partners  to  use  plant-‐based  and  naturally-‐derived   ingredients,  pure  essential  oil  fragrances,  gentle  preservatives  and  non-‐ petroleum  ingredients.
  • We  are  committed  to  high-‐quality  body  care  products  that  have  a  proven   track  record.
  • We  only  sell  personal  care  products  that  have  not  been  tested  on  animals.
  • We  provide  personal  care  products  that  support  health  and  well-‐being.
  • No  Animal  Testing

They also have baseline standards that don’t allow aluminum compounds commonly found in deodorant and some of the “nasties” that are found in conventional skin and hair products like Ammonia,  Ammonium  xylene  sulfonate,  BHT  and  BHA   (preservatives),  and more! Read more here on their premium body care standards -very impressive!

By the way, this is the list of ingredients that Whole Foods Market DOES NOT allow on their shelves, and it’s a long one: whole food market

Picky, picky – and I LOVE it! It feels good to know that when shopping at Whole Foods, they’ve already done the research on which products offer the healthiest ingredients and they’re extremely particular about what they put up on their shelves. In other words, you really can’t go wrong when looking for premium bodycare products while shopping at Whole Foods.

Whole Foods Market One-Day 25% Off on all Bodycare Products

Head on down to your local San Diego Whole Foods Market on Friday, June 27, 2014 and receive 25% Off ALL BODYCARE PRODUCTS! (Coupon below required). I’ll be there stocking up myself! Whole Foods Market

Product Spotlights

While you’re there, check out these recommendations I have based on some of the fantastic products I was able to test out at the media event, or take home with me and begin using regularly. Here are some of my favorites, just in time for summer:

  1. Evanhealy Skincare: I had the pleasure of meeting Evan Healy in person and learn the history behind her skin care line. Evan started Evanhealy skincare based on the concept that “less is more” and the less you interfere with the skin’s own ability to achieve balance, the better the results you’ll receive. She has taken her love of plants and past experience as an esthetician and created a simple, plant-based skin care line that draws amazing results. I chose the Blue Sensitive Face Care Kit (up to 14 days of treatment including a cleanser, serum, moisturizer and clay mask) and am only on day 3 but am truly loving it so far! evanheay
  2. Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps: This was my first stint with the acclaimed Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, which is shocking because they’ve been around for 150 years! And I love that their philosophy is simple: Quality soap making consists in great part of choosing the right proportions of the right oils. Coconut oil is very high lathering, but can be drying. Olive oil gives a really soft and luxuriant lather, but in small amounts. By using both coconut and olive oils in the right ratio, Dr. Bronner’s unsurpassed soaps offer the best of both worlds: high lather with superb softness on the skin. dr. bronners
  3. Aura Cacia Chakra Balancing: Aura Cacia Pure Essential Oils is the aromatherapy leader providing 100% authentic, pure and organic products. I LOVE the chakra balancing aromatherapy roll-on. You just apply it to your pulse points and behind the ear and inhale to nurture your crown chakra. Very calming and smells divine! aura cacia
  4. Mineral Fusion Lip Tint: This is a vegan, gluten and cruelty-free makeup line with amazing mineral makeup, nail polish and this lovely lip tint. I love the color I chose, sparkle, a soft pink. It smooths lips and provides lasting color throughout the day. Consider me hooked and Blake is stunned by the results! 😉 minera fusion
  5. Burt’s Bees Dark Spot Corrector: I have a couple of dark spots after pregnancy, that’s why I am super excited to try this new product. Burt’s Bees uses daisy extracts that have been shown to be a natural skin brightening agent, helping reduce the appearance of dark spots and pigmentation. When this extract is combined with a multi-fruit complex, the mixture can be used to diminish dark spots and provide a brightened, more even looking tone. Sign me up!
  6. Makana Artisinal Pure Soy Candle: These smell incredible and I love the card that came with the candle: “Life is a Makana (gift). Treasure it.” These Makana Aritisnal Candles are hand-poured in small batches with 100% soy wax, phthalate-free fragrance and essential oils with natural cotton wicking. They’re also made with no paraffin, lead, colorants, or chemical additives and are vegan and cruelty-free. Love!

Rookie Mom Challenge #6: Buy Some New Jeans

This past week, I decided to complete the 35th Rookie Moms Challenge (in the list of 52 Weekly Challenges) and  buy myself some new jeans. Perhaps the most daunting of all the Rookie Mom Challenges.

Hot Mess

It all began one day when Blake had just gone down for a “nap”. Nap is in quotations because the child does not nap – she merely closes her eyes for a 10 minute stretch and then is wide awake and ready to play again. Still, 10 minutes is a much-needed break and a moment to myself. I sat down on the couch, in the silence and slowly “came to”. It was 3:30PM, I was still in my pajamas…pajamas covered in baby spit up. What’s worse? I hadn’t even brushed my teeth that morning! The words, hot mess came to mind as I sympathized with my grumpy cat mug.

new mom

In an act to try to “save the day” I went into my closet and pulled out some old pre-pregnancy jeans. Big mistake. I got one leg in when I realized, this just wasn’t going to work, and why go through the pain of trying to squeeze a whole other leg in? I contemplated putting on my maternity jeans but then opted for my ol’ reliable, tried and true yoga pants instead (every new mom’s uniform) and vowed to go shopping the next day.

What Do Moms Wear?

I put a lot of thought into what sort of clothes I needed and in the end, decided I needed a new style altogether. Afterall, wasn’t I a new person after having a child? I was now a mom. What do moms wear? I wanted something comfortable, but not too sloppy looking. Chic and trendy but toned down a bit. Baffled by all of these new thoughts, I headed to the mall.

Luckily I was able to find some great items at two of my favorite stores: Express and Zara. After awkwardly telling one of the store’s sales reps that I was “looking for new clothes within the genre, Suburban Mom meets San Diego hipster” (the 22-year-old sales rep looked at me blankly) I bought a couple pairs of jeans and a few shirts. I tried to make my purchases about 50% mom appropriate and comfortable and 50% San Diego trendy – in the end they’re really just 100% me.

A Different Version of Myself

And while I may not be the same person I was a year ago – two sizes smaller wearing skin-tight clothes, going out to fancy restaurants and trendy bars every weekend and complaining when I didn’t get 8 hours of sleep (ha! what a fool) – I’m definitely still a version of myself. Perhaps a little more mature (a newborn baby depending on you for survival will do that I guess), a lot more confident (ya know, because I gave birth to a human being), and a whole lot more complete with Blake in my life.

Funny how a new pair of jeans can put it all into perspective. :)

Diaper Bags Gone Glam

I hadn’t given too much thought to what diaper bag I’d like to have until my BFF (and recent new-mom) let me in on a little secret, (whispering): diaper bags can be designer bags. Umm, hello best piece of information I’ve ever received! You now have my full attention and I’m suddenly putting a lot of thought into this purchase! And it makes sense; a bag that us moms will be lugging all over the place day and night? We deserve a little glam amongst the diapers, wipes and spit-up rags – AM I RIGHT? (I am).

Here are the top diaper designer bags that I’m loving:

1. Coach Large City Tote in Saffiano Leather – simple, large and RED (my new favorite color).

2.  Tory Burch Thea Large Tote – oh, my – those tassels! Really liking the blue and the gold together too.

3. Prada Studded Suede Twin Pocket Tote (available at Saks Fifth Avenue) – Subtle enough for the day, but gorgeous enough for the night – I’m in love.
