Monday Mashup

I hope everyone had a wonderful Father’s Day celebrating all the great Dads in your life! Here is the week’s Monday Mashup with the top 5 things I’m loving this week:

  1. The Longest Day, supporting Alzheimer’s AssociationJune 21st is the  first day of summer and the longest day of the year. This year, I am participating in the Longest Day to help raise awareness about Alzheimer’s – a disease that hits a little too close to home for me. My grandmother is currently battling this heart wrenching disease and my great-grandmother passed away from Alzheimer’s. On the Longest Day my family and I are putting together a day of activities in Mission Beach, from sunrise to sunset, in honor of my Grandmother. If you are able to help donate or if you’d like to participate in your own Longest Day activities please learn more here. Go Team Gram! #EndAlz

  2. TakeLessons: Are you contemplating putting your children in music or dance class? How about tutoring or foreign language for your older kids? TakeLessons is the nation’s leading online marketplace for finding and comparing qualified instructors in a range of subjects, including music, dance, acting, foreign languages, math and college exams. TakeLessons saves us busy parents time by creating a qualified database of instructors for your child’s unique needs. I can’t wait to try this service when Blake is a little older. (Piano lessons here we come!)
  3. San Diego Mom’s Night Out at BoConcept: The site I write for, San Diego Mom’s Night Out, is hosting a fun event on Juy 10th at BoConcept in Little Italy, San Diego. Come relax in style while enjoying bites from Isola Pizza Bar and Monello, wine from Bon Affair (as seen on Shark Tank), chair massages and polish changes from Se Spa, styling tips and shopping from M Boutique, a BoConcept swag bag and more! Tickets are $25 now through June 18th and will go up to $30 until the day of the event, or $35 at the door. Purchase tickets here. I hope to see you there!

  4. The Mountain Video: I found this video on the San Francisco Globe last week. A man took a trip to El Teide, one of Spain’s highest mountains, to film the Milky Way galaxy. This final video he put together is beautiful and inspiring and I love the music they chose. I actually have it playing right now as I write this, on repeat – very calming!
  5. 5 Minutes in a Mom’s Head: Did you see this circulating around Facebook? I’ve had several conversations about having “Mommy Brain” after becoming a mother and my  philosophy is that we tend to get a little fuzzy because we have SO MUCH going on up there that we don’t even realize – mostly worry about our little ones and over analyzing everything that has to do with our children. This is a very accurate read for anyone who is a Mom.

Have a great week!

Monday Mashup

Happy Monday! Hope everyone’s week is off to a fantastic start! Check out the 5 things I’m loving in this week’s Monday Mashup: 1. 10 Habits of a Successful Mom: This post on Today’s the Best Day blog, really resonated with me because I, too traded in my nice work suits and high heels for flip flops and yoga pants when I left the corporate world and a job I loved to become a full time mom. I love how she refers to the new “mommy job” as a promotion – I totally agree. 2. Moms Night Out at Culture Brewing Co.: Some fellow moms and I experienced Culture Brewing Co. for a fantastic Mom’s Night Out. Check out the article on San Diego Mom’s Night Out for all the details – this San Diego brewery is legit.` Culture Brewing Co. 3. Little Leopard Book: This blog has the best recipes ever! I mean, just follow her Instagram account and you’ll be drooling in no time! Whitney is so cute and she inspires me to start cooking more! 4. StitchFix: I did it – I made the leap and started using StitchFix. It’s such a great idea for us busy moms who don’t really have time to peruse the mall anymore. Plus, I always wanted a personal stylist! And so far, so good – I found one shirt that I loved and kept from my last order and am looking forward to next month’s shipment. The box full of clothse arriving at your doorstep every month is kinda like Christmas for fashionistas – love it! Check it out here. 5. Help San Diego Fire Victims & Firefighters: Last week TEN fires broke out across San Diego county as  intense Santa Ana winds, low humidity and triple digit temperatures only escalated the catstrophe. As I write this, four fires are still burning. At least 25,000 acres have burned in total forcing 125,000 evacuations and dozens of homes destroyed.  To donate goods or money to help evacuees or fire crews involved in this firestorm, here are some suggestions:

Monday Mashup

I’ve decided to start a new series called Monday Mashup because I’m constantly coming across great blogs or articles that I think are interesting or entertaining and I’d love to start sharing these with you all, every Monday. Sharing is caring, amiright? So, without further ado, here are my top 5 mashups this week:

1. ‘This is How I Feel’ series on Oakland Avenue: I love Laura Wifler’s blog, Oakland Avenue, especially her series called ‘This is How I Feel’ – moms and dads alike will get a kick out of these very accurate GIFs – it’s seriously laugh-out-loud funny. Mike and I scrolled through every single one and were both DYING laughing. Oh, parenting.

2. Confessions of  a New Mom: While you’re over at Oakland Avenue, check out my guest blog post spilling the beans about my Confessions as a New Mom. Yes, I like cleaning lint out of Blake’s toes and I don’t care who knows it!

3. Moms’ Night Out, the movie: Did you hear about the new movie coming out called ‘Moms’ Night Out’? I can’t wait to see this comedy as I’m sure it’ll be quite amusing to all of us mothers! San Diego Mom’s Night Out is hosting a fun event at AMC Mission Valley theater where moms throughout San Diego will be able to mix and mingle with some light bites, desserts and cocktails and then sit down and watch this new flick. I can’t wait and I hope to see all of you San Diego mamas there! Click here for details and tickets.

4. VIPink at Westfield Malls: Have you purchased your VIPink card yet?  This coming weekend, May 3-4, Westfield shopping centers nationwide, in partnership with Bright Pink, will join in a celebration of women. With the VIPink card, you will receive 20% off premiere retailers and weekend entertainment and treats. All proceeds from the $10 VIPink card go to Bright Pink, the only national nonprofit focused on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women. 5. Bikini Series from Tone It Up: Summer is upon us and, lets be honest, I haven’t worked out since FitFabFeb (wow, that was 3 months ago!) That’s why I was very interested when my friend (who blogs over at the cutest site, Little Better Halves – check it out!) told me about this Bikini Series from Tone It Up. They provide weekly workouts, recipes, daily motivation, prizes, and the best lifestyle and fitness challenges to get you ready for summer! And the best part? It’s FREE! I’m all signed up and ready to TONE.IT.UP, son!

Have a great week!
